Okay, it is one thing to express your faith or encourage someone. It is entirely different to start forcing your beliefs on others or condemning someone for not believing in your beliefs.
I initially started on Facebook to connect with high school and college classmates. Facebook was also beneficial for me connecting with long distance family. Currently, I enjoy playing some of the Facebook games such as "Farmville" and "It Girl". I also enjoy being a part of some groups on Facebook that promote awareness, education, and growth. Plus, it is great to chat with my family and friends.
Lately, I have noticed that individuals on my page are starting to preach and condemn, more than encourage. Again, religious people feel that Facebook is some type of pulpit for them throw around their foolish doctrines that have nothing to do with Christianity. Yes, I could simply remove them but I have a reason to keep them. It helps me in my faith walk not to do the things as religious people. After all, the bible does declare to love your enemies and keep them close (Luke 6).
Facebook is a great tool for networking in different areas like education, politics, religion, and entertainment. However, it should not be intended for personal attacks on one's beliefs, lifestyle, or culture.
Everyone has the right to post whatever they what on their Facebook page. After all, we live in a by the people for the people society and these users are exercising that right.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I am bothered by the aggressiveness that Christians use to get their message across. Their voice and tone scare folks instead of winning people over. As a result, they simply turn individuals away. The truth can be shared in a tactful way. Words of encouragement are a way that will engage people, not words that condemn.
My resolve is to delete the extreme Christian and focus on the organizations and Christians who help to keep me spiritual grounded.
Nice piece, keep them coming.

This raises the question about, Do they really believe? A parrot can be taught tell you "Jesus Loves You", but can you believe he is really telling you this? That is the problem with most Church people they are trained to respond to certain battles, but a true person of faith will pray and know how to act when the unknown comes at them.
ReplyDeleteI am a christian on facebook, and I have the same view you just posted, and I say all the time I pray I don't act like some of them. For me Christianity is having a relationship with Christ and learning how to live by His word, I do speak differently to those that I have a built relationship with. But I try to just encourage other believers, and non-believers. Because I'm like this, no one can talk me out of being a christian. And I always want to be loving and kind to anybody I talk to. I want people to want what I have cause they see the love of Christ in me.
ReplyDeletePassion,
DeleteThank you for commenting...Yes, it would be nice if there were many individuals such as yourself with this attitude, as I. I have noticed lately, that some are using political agendas more than spreading a message of love or testimonials of God's power in the life of believers.
